With support from a grant from the Regional Arts Commission, I am currently collaborating with Joanna Rosalee-Mendoza from the Arianna String Quartet to create an interactive installation titled Beasts. This installation explores fear of the unfamiliar in its many guises and consequences.
Physical elements of the installation include large geometric forms inspired by beasts in the wild such as whales and also culturally produced ones such as unfamiliar people or political figures. They are made from steel, bronze, wood, carbon fiber, and other miscellaneous materials. On view for Open Studios will be sculptures and mixed media works on paper made in preparation for Beasts including works for sale.
I have recently purchased a live/work building in The Patch neighborhood with the intention of collaborating with the burgeoning creative community there so that this historic neighborhood may continue to flourish. My studio is in this building, please come visit all of us in The Patch neighborhood.
